Psychotherapy for Men in London & Online

Specialist psychotherapy for complex psychological, sexual and relationship difficulties

Psychotherapy is the foundation of my clinical work. I work predominantly with men, including those experiencing difficulties involving emotions, relationships, sexuality, trauma or patterns of behaviour that have become difficult to understand or change.

People often approach me when their difficulties do not fit neatly into one category, when the same problems continue to repeat, or when previous support has not addressed the underlying psychological and relational patterns.

Areas I work with

Psychotherapy may help with difficulties including:

  • Anxiety, depression and persistent emotional distress

  • Shame, secrecy and difficulties with self-worth

  • Trauma and the continuing effects of adverse experiences

  • Attachment, intimacy and relationship patterns

  • Emotional dysregulation and impulsive behaviour

  • Compulsive or problematic sexual behaviour

  • Problematic pornography use

  • Repeated infidelity, disclosure and living a double life

  • Difficulties involving identity, sexuality or sexual confidence

  • Substance use and other co-occurring difficulties

  • Major life changes, loss and relationship breakdown

  • The psychological pressures associated with senior, high-responsibility or public-facing roles

You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or a complete explanation of what is happening. The initial work involves developing a careful understanding of the difficulty, its history and the factors that may be maintaining it.

My approach

My approach is integrative and formulation-led. This means that therapy is organised around an individual understanding of you rather than applying one model to every client. My core training is in humanistic and Gestalt psychotherapy. My work is also informed by psychodynamic, attachment-based, cognitive-behavioural, dialectical-behavioural, trauma-informed and psychosexual approaches.

Depending on your needs, therapy may involve exploring earlier experiences and relationships, understanding present patterns, developing emotional regulation, addressing avoidance or secrecy, and finding more sustainable ways of responding.

The work is confidential, non-shaming and psychologically thoughtful. Where behaviour has affected other people, therapy also requires honesty, responsibility and attention to the possibility of harm.

Complex and sensitive presentations

I have extensive experience of working with complex psychological and behavioural presentations in private practice and psychiatric settings.

Some clients seek help because they are concerned that aspects of their sexual behaviour or interests may be harmful, high-risk or could cross legal boundaries. These concerns require particularly careful assessment, clear confidentiality boundaries and specialist clinical judgement.

Psychotherapy is distinct from formal forensic assessment or statutory risk management. Where a legal or forensic assessment is required, this is considered separately and is not combined with an ongoing therapeutic relationship.

Professional experience

I am a senior psychotherapist registered with UKCP, a COSRT-accredited psychosexual and relationship therapist, and a clinical sexologist. My previous roles include Clinical Lead and Therapy Services Manager.

I serve as Chair of COSRT and am Founder and Director of the Institute of Psychosexual Psychotherapy. These roles sit alongside my clinical practice, teaching, supervision and continuing involvement in professional development.

Beginning psychotherapy

Sessions are available in Central London and online. Individual psychotherapy sessions normally last 50 minutes and cost £120.

The first consultation provides an opportunity to discuss what is happening, consider what you would like to change and assess whether my experience and approach are appropriate for your needs. Both longer-term psychotherapy and shorter, focused work may be considered. The likely approach and frequency will be discussed following the initial assessment.
